Brain Injury (a poem)
“Brain Injury”
Brain injury is a life-long journey, whose road is long and arduous. It sometimes gets easier, allowing you to have a glimpse of the life that once was… However, you can’t get through it alone. You need plenty of determination and motivation, along with the help and support of loved-ones, family, and friends to prevail and ultimately reach your destination! This poem’s author is a stroke survivor, who is along the road to recovery. She hopes to return to the job market, after she completes a work evaluation at the Side By Side Clubhouse. More from the author: My name is T. and I am a new member of the Side by Side Clubhouse. I am originally from New Jersey, but I live in Atlanta. I am a single female, with no children. Six years ago, I suffered a brain injury after I had a major stroke. I find that most people I know, myself included, no longer expect me to have any deficits or to be completely ”normal” because it has been so long since my stroke. Unfortunately, I am still suffering from some minor cognitive deficits today. I am hoping that the Side by Side Clubhouse will help me to further identify any remaining deficits and help me to continue to work around those deficits, so that I may ultimately return to work.]]>
