Side by Side eNewsletter – August

Save the Date: Wednesday, November 6th

We have so much to be thankful for. Our supporters have allowed us to provide brain injury services for two decades! Plus, we JUST finished a multi-year renovation on our Clubhouse. We hope you’ll come and celebrate with friends, new and old. It will be a chance to look back at what we’ve accomplished together and for us to explain what our building upgrades will enable us to do in the future.

Please mark your calendars – more details coming soon!

Side by Side Honored for Best Civic Group by the Atlanta Community Food Bank

Last week, a group of members got dressed up, braved rush hour traffic and headed to the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s volunteer appreciation dinner. The folks that attended are part of the regular “crew” that volunteers there. And these aren’t casual volunteers. Last year they logged over 841 volunteer hours at local Atlanta nonprofits.

We asked Jia, (pictured below; front, right) before they headed out that day why she chooses to volunteer. She quickly responded, “I like to give back. I’ve always been taught that to those whome much has been given, much is required.”

Side by Side Member JR on his Caregiver

Family is a beautiful and complicated thing. Member JR shared during a recent program meeting about the early days after his car accident. He told all the members and staff about how his mother was there every step of the way.

He was honest about the fact that he wasn’t always appreciative of her then. So, he jumped at the chance to share how he now understands that he could not be where he is today without her support.

Click here to watch his JR tell us about his mom.

JR is one of Side by Side’s biggest sports fans.
His teams: Philadelphia Eagles, New York Yankees, Golden State Warriors,
Atlanta United and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Transitional Employment: Felicia

Felicia picked up the torch from Javon as the next member to take advantage of our first transitional employment site. Now Stone Ridge Event Center has hosted Chase, JR, Jason and Felicia.

Here’s a snapshot of her first day!
