Small victories with repetition

Hello world!  Today I would like to talk to you about repetition.  People with brain injuries tend to do much better with repetition.  I know I have and I continue to.  The old saying practice makes perfect is absolutely correct.  I remember I would make coffee at home early during my recovery.  The house was quiet, it was early.  I could be in the middle of putting water in the coffee maker and totally forget why I was even in the kitchen.  I would fearfully freeze, regain my bearings, and then continue on.  For a few moments, I would be completely lost and think, “Ok, why am I in here? What am I doing?” Now, since I’ve been doing it for so long, I don’t have that trouble anymore.  I can make coffee now with no problem.  Repetition, being on a structured schedule, and sticking to that schedule is necessary for brain injured people.  It may seem like a small thing and something trivial; easy.  You HAVE TO find joy in small victories.  Here at Side by Side, we practice repetition which is extremely helpful to all of us. -Catherine]]>
